Mandatory Compliance for Food Importation in Dubai

Commercial Permit

A "mainland license" with a dedicated Foodstuff Trading activity is legally compulsory for commercial food imports, ensuring compliance with all hygiene and import/export standards.

Compulsory Government Approvals

After obtaining your license, official registration with two critical regulatory bodies is non-negotiable to legalize imports.

Dubai Municipality (DM)

The ultimate authority for food safety and product approval.

Dubai Customs

Necessary for obtaining the Import/Export Code and shipment release.

Tips

  1. UAE Permits: Consult with us in advance to obtain any additional UAE import permits required for specific products.
  2. Labeling: Ensure all food items are correctly and fully labeled according to UAE regulatory standards (including necessary Arabic translation).
  3. Packaging: Use only safe, food-grade packaging that meets specific UAE standards.
  4. Temperature & Storage: Adhere to HACCP standards. Clearly label cargo and state temperature requirements on shipping documents (BL/AWB) to maintain cold chain integrity.
  5. Cargo Purity: Strictly exclude all non-food items (e.g., POS materials, office supplies, samples, gifts) from food shipments to prevent regulatory issues.
  6. Documentation: Provide draft soft copies for pre-submission review and ensure original hard copies are available for customs clearance well in advance.
